Since the 1990s Knowaste LLC has specialised in the research and development of state-of-the-art technologies to recycle disposable nappies, adult incontinence and feminine hygiene products – collectively known as Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHPs), to reclaim the valuable fibres and plastics.
Knowaste originates from North America. In addition to owning and operating recycling facilities, in some international markets it licenses the rights to use its pioneering technology and know-how to select local companies on an exclusive basis.
In the UK, Knowaste Ltd opened a recycling plant earlier this year near Birmingham, England, and this site is the first of five planned over four years, which could each process over 30,000 tonnes annually. Knowaste works across the commercial and public sectors with waste companies, hygiene companies and their customers to recycle their AHP waste, sterilising and separating the materials to recover highly valuable plastic and fibre that can then be used for making new products, such as roof tiles or plastic components and fibre-based construction and commercial tubes.
Relivit has exclusive rights to use the Knowaste technology in Australia and New Zealand. Relivit will benefit from the years of design and development by Knowaste and the practical experience with the treatment of AHP waste in different settings.
